Commander’s Corner – Spring 2014

Once again, I want to thank everyone for the great efforts made soliciting donations for Buddy Poppies on Veterans Day weekend.   We were able to bring in a considerable amount of funding for our programs. This is the work of the VFW and I’m proud to say our Post has done more than its share.

On December 7th I attended the dedication of the new WWII Memorial at Wesley Bolin Plaza which has been constructed on the site of the existing memorial to the USS Arizona. The Auxiliary President and I laid a wreath at the memorial in remembrance of the American servicemen and women at Pearl Harbor. Our Post was well represented by other members that day as well. This is also the work of the VFW.

On December 8th the Post hosted the District 4 Voice of Democracy-Patriots Pen/Teacher of the Year banquet. It is always very rewarding to see and hear the patriotic work of our young Americans. A special thank you goes to Chef Fred and all the ladies who worked so hard to make the event successful. The Post VOD-PP banquet will be combined with the Auxiliary Dinner on December 13th.

Upcoming events include the Ladies Auxiliary Cancer Aid & Research Spaghetti Dinner on January 5th and the Department Voice of Democracy-Patriots Pen/Teacher of the Year Banquet in Casa Grande on January 11th.

Keep in mind that there is always a Ladies Auxiliary Dinner on the 2nd Friday of the month and a Cootie Fish Fry on the 4th Friday. The Cooties also host some veterans from the Arizona State Home who really appreciate getting out and being with other veterans. It’s a great way to have some fun and support your Post. All Post and Auxiliary members are also welcome to participate in the monthly Dog Races the Cooties host at the VA Medical Center, Community Living Center or the AZ State Home. Keep your eye on the board in the Canteen for dates. This is also your Post at work. Come join us.
